KITCHEN GARDEN TO DO A DISPLAY GARDEN AT DIG THE CITY!
We will be using recycled pallets and an old wheelbarrow to grow vegetables, fruit and herbs, to encourage people to Grow anywhere, especially in small spaces.
Come to find us in Manchester City Centre! See the DIG THE CITY web site and watch this space for more details of our garden
Set in the tranquil gardens of Turton Tower, the cornmunity based kitchen garden project aims to restore the kitchen garden to its Victorian roots.
The project began in 2008 with a committed enthusiastic group of volunteers approaching Blackburn with Darwen Councils. The garden was completely covered with brambles, ferns, old bushes and trees. It has taken the volunteers two years to clear it; a lot of sweat and tears included! We also obtained a small grant from Blackburn with Darwen Rural Neighbourhood Board.
We hove designed the garden as a Victorian kitchen garden may have looked with vegetables and flowers growing and we have now reached the planting stage which is really exciting; vegetables and flowers this year and eventually fruit trees and bushes next year.
So come and join us in developing this beautiful old kitchen garden into a thriving community based garden. We need so much help with maintaining, watering and planting the flowers and vegetables. An hour or two goes a long way in keeping the planting healthy.
We hope will take a little time to look through the next few pages which tell you more about our project and the many ways you can help make it a real success.for the community.
