Contributions

Since it began, Friends of Turton Tower has made contributions to the collections at Turton Tower as well as providing items used to help preserve the Tower and its contents. Over the last three years, the Friends have had to focus their funds on raising awareness about the situation over the funding of Turton Tower.

We now intend to return our focus to making more contributions to Turton Tower. Here are some examples of the contributions the Friends have made over the years, including ones that we have put money towards.

Donation To The Blackburn With Darwen Renovation Work 2012

Karimeh Foster, Mayor of Blackburn With Darwen at Turton Tower

At the 2012 AGM of the Friends of Turton Tower, the Friends decided that they wanted to make a significant contribution to the immense renovation work that was being undertaken by Blackburn With Darwen Council. After careful consideration, the Friends chose to donate £7,000 towards the funding of the work on a new septic tank for Turton Tower. It was felt that the replacement of the extremely malodorous current system would do a lot to improve the visitor experience of both visitors to the Tower and to walkers using the Tower grounds.

With the opening of Turton Tower for the 2012 season,  representatives of the Friends met the Mayor of Balckburn with Darwen, Councillor Karimeh Foster, along with local councillors and Turton Tower champions Councillors Colin and Jean Rigby to formally present a cheque to the coucil.

Paintings of The Chethams

The Friends made a contribution to help the Tower purchase pictures of members of the Chetham family, which are now being restored by the Lancashire Museum Conservation Centre. The paintings are due to be hung back in the tower in 2012
